Retailer leverages 3D product modeling to quickly launch AR tool

Objective

A leading retail warehouse club was looking to enhance their shopper experience by enabling large items to be visualized in augmented reality (AR). The goal was for members to be able to view large objects in augmented reality without the need for physical product delivery. As a result, the retailer could achieve significantly higher conversion rates for ecommerce sales, while slashing reduction in returns.

Method

InContext was commissioned to provide 3D model creation services, including content standardization and hosting, to power the retailer’s existing member application. To fulfill the scope of the project, InContext produced and delivered studio quality photography, confirmed physical measurement per supplier spec, and created AR-capable 3D model assets for over 300 large items across numerous supplier locations in 5 weeks. In addition, multiple color and texture swatches were created for each item, enabling toggle functionality that allowed users to confirm which color and texture best fit their needs.

Results

With an ecosystem designed for high-quality and scale, InContext was able to meet and exceed expectations related to 3D model asset delivery. The retailer was able to quickly launch an AR application for its members, which allowed for solution evaluation to verify their hypothesis.
